Jonathan Howe has been surveying full time since 1992 and prior to that he spent over a decade delivering all types and sizes of vessels up to 90′ throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas, Central America as well as the entire U.S. East, West and Gulf Coasts. He made over 100 voyages during this period as Captain, including 3 Panama canal transits.

PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

EMPLOYER: Self employed, Ft. Lauderdale, FL
2008 – Present POSITION: Marine Surveyor and Consultant

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Surveyor of both power and sailing vessels up to approximately 140′ for prospective buyers, financial institutions and insurance companies. Conduct thorough inspection of all applicable systems including: hull/deck and superstructure, running gear, masts/rigging, plumbing and electrical systems, electronics, engine(s), related equipment hardware and safety equipment. Determine value of the vessel, discuss findings and prompt production of a detailed written report.

Contract surveyor for Bureau Veritas conducting measurement/tonnage surveys as well as safety surveys.

Damage and claims surveyor for various insurance companies and clients, investigating damage and accidents, providing estimates for repairs and producing detailed reports.

Expert witness in various cases involving product failure, injury etc. for both plaintiffs and defendants.

1992 – 2008 POSITION: Marine Surveyor and Consultant

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1979 – 1992 POSITION: U.S. Merchant Marine Officer, Master of Steam, Motor or Auxiliary Sail up to 100 tons. Presently on 6th issue of license.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Delivery of all types and sizes of vessels up to 90′ throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas, Central America as well as the entire U.S. east, west and gulf coasts. Over 100 voyages during this period as Captain, including 3 Panama canal transits. Additionally, private Captain aboard yachts to 90′ responsible for overseeing and conducting refits, yard periods, maintenance, crew, ship’s movements and well-being and safety of the charterers.

1977 – 1979 POSITION: Senior Computer Systems Analyst

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and implementation of software architecture for a variety of real time computer systems.

EMPLOYER: U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office, Washington D.C.
1969 – 1976 POSITION: Senior Mathematician/Computer Scientist

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Resident computer “expert” aboard several U.S. Naval Oceanographic research ships for an advanced data collection and processing system. Logged over 50,000 miles on more than 20 scientific surveys throughout the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans as well as the Gulf of Mexico North China Sea, Arctic and North Seas. Trained Oceanographers to use computers to assist them in their research and data collection.
